Competition Rules:

General All competitions will be shot on the announced range and date. No early or late entries will be allowed. Re-entries are not permitted. The results of the competition must be returned to the Competition Secretary within 28 days of the competition date, and accompanied by the shot cards for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place competitors. Each card must detail the type and calibre of firearm used, and must be signed by the Range Officer.

Sights Any sights (except telescopic) are allowed unless specifically excluded by the rules of any particular competition. Aperture, adjustable or target sights are, therefore, permissable in the majority of cases, provided that these were originally available for the firearms in question.

Firearms The type and calibre of permitted firearms are usually specified in the rules of the individual competition. All firearms used in competition must fall within the VAA Constitution guidelines, and must be of a calibre which is historically correct for the type. This applies both to original and to reproduction firearms and means, for example, that .22, 357 and 38 Special reproductions of full bore weapons are not permitted.

This ruling is not intended to exclude minor variations in calibre of original firearms that may have been re-bored or re-barrelled during their life, or as part of a process of restoration provided that such restoration has not materially improved the accuracy of the firearm beyond that of which it was originally capable. Members who are uncertain about the suitability of a particular firearm should contact the Secretary for a ruling beforehand. On the day, the decision will rest with the Range Officer.

Sighters Sighting-in will normally be possible before a competition. Unless specifically excluded, spotting and/or
marking is permitted during a competition.

Time Unless specified in the rules, there are no time limits on any competition. Time allowed will be at the discretion of the Range Officer.

Position This will be specified in the rules. Slings are permitted, but not rests or pits. Where the rules state position as 'any' this allows any position and any hold, and excludes only the use of rests or pits.

Black Powder. Where 'Black Powder only' is specified, this includes 'Pyrodex.'

Scoring Targets will be scored on the day by the Range Officer or an appointed deputy. Shots cutting the line will count high. In the case of a tie, the shot cards will be decided by countback (ie when two or more scores are equal, the Competitions Secretary will decide which is the better card by counting the highest numbers on the target, eg 63 scored with six 10s and one 3 would be better than 63 scored with five 8s, two 9s and a 5.) Cards will be kept by the Competition Secretary until after the AGM. The decision of the Competition Secretary is final.
